My New Toys Have Arrived

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

My new toys arrived on Thursday night. I now have a 120gb USB 2 hard-disk, a 802.11G Wireless LAN, and a Linksys Network Storage Link (A tiny Linux box that shares two use storage devices as Samba shares on a LAN). I have been the wireless LAN up and running, and the Linksys box is on the LAN, but I can’t get the shares mounted on my machines running Windows.

I think I will buy a second Network Storage Link to play with.

I have been collecting Coke ring-pulls and and wrappers to avail of the ‘free’ music on offer. I must use them some day, and see if I can strip the DRM from the WMA files.

Nothing Could Stop It
D-Day, Stephen E. Ambrose
As seen here;

  1. Grab the nearest book.
  2. Open the book to page 123.
  3. Find the fifth sentence.
  4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
  5. Don’t search around and look for the “coolest” book you can find. Do what’s actually next to you.

Hub is Dying, Hub is Dying

Saturday, February 19th, 2005

My laptop screen is dying. I think there is a poor connection between the graphics card and the LCD panel in the hinge. I will bring it to a doctor on Monday, who will hopefully repair it. I must back stuff up so.

On Monday I also hope to have some toys arrive from Amazon for me to play with. I will build a machine to sit under the TV and stream movies that I have stolen from the MPAA and music that I have stolen from the RIAA all over the house.

I saw some of the Grammy awards last night. Ray Charles was given a post-humous award, and person that gave a collection speech on his behalf thanked Starbucks. In the next piece of theatre the RIAA told everyone to stop downloading music from the internet, because all the artists in the world are losing money. If you want DRM free music, get it at MP3 Tunes.com.

Because I have updated my website. Wordpress 1.5 lets me have static pages, so I have been migrating content to use Wordpress. Aine now has broadband and a laptop, and has no excude for not updating her website, after vagrant children were arrested while running on her roof.

Until Vlad makes box go, I will use Gmail to read my email. All my regular addresses will still work.
